Development of medical equipment maintenance

Business Challenges

Situated near the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers in Lewiston Idaho, SJRMC has been providing medical care to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and surrounding eight counties since 1902 when the Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet began giving medical services in a small frame house near the Snake River. From this modest beginning, SJRMC has grown to be a regional medical center.

Comprised of a medical team of more than 130 active, courtesy and consulting physicians, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center offers the region a variety of specialty services.

In the recent years paper work on the equipment catalog maintenance became very time-taking as state of each equipment unit must be documented and modified in real-time. St. Joseph Medical Center has addressed our company with this challenging task - to create an electronic version of this paper-flow.

System Functionality

The system functionality is based on managing the database that includes related Microsoft Access tables. Relationships between the tables are built using unique keys that ensure the database integrity. The GUI designed on the MDI (Multi Document Interface) approach and the toolbar provides a convenient interface to the end-user. Such an approach implemented in the application design allows switching to the required mode via a single mouse-click without closing the previous one. This design significantly decreases the operator's work laboriousness and the rate of mistakes. The system is developed in order to provide the following functionality:

  • Convenient and systematic maintenance of related equipment data tables.
  • Various searching capabilities for working with data.
  • A large set of different reports allowing a user to manage and view system dataset in a user-friendly interface.
  • Modern and simple installation package that provides easy installation routine that saves time and expenses for the operator's workplace organization.

Summary

The developed application allows the end-user to systematize the equipment database and significantly improve the operator's performance when managing the equipment catalogue. Reports allow both the operator and manager to control and trace all database modifications. The system eliminates numerous difficulties that concern the equipment catalogue maintenance and provides the appropriate functionality that completely substitutes paper work. The system implementation allows a user to reduce expenses and avoid all the mistakes that always occur in the paper work. Total data cataloging and systematization also prevents data loss.
