Business Challenges
A $2 billion aerospace and defense company with leading positions in propulsion, composite structures, munitions, and precision capabilities needed to have a program that would categorize and sort data from one of bullet manufacturing processes. The process starts with a flat piece of metal and through successive steps or "draws" lengthens and shapes it into first a "cup" and then a "jacket". There are approx. 300 distinct parts. Each specification has a target, an upper spec. limit and a lower spec. limit. The program would allow taking samples during the run and record the values. Then engineers would be able to sort the information based on different criteria and use various criteria to determine whether the run of the product meets our quality standards by performing some statistical calculations using the sample data. Histograms would be used extensively. Sample values need to be input directly from the electronic measuring device.
System Functionality
INTELSYS designed a quality management system based on object-oriented technologies. Application presents the information for end-users and has many useful functionalities, such as:
- Database with multiple user security levels
- Automatic data entry trough measuring device.
- Database/data management interface for operators
- Ability to create and print custom histograms
Used languages & Technologies
- Rational Unified Process
- Borland Standard Components
- Borland User Components
- MS Windows NT
- Rational Rose 2001
- Borland C++ Builder 5.0.
